Puppy Potty Training
We have a 4 month old Coonhound/Austrailian Shepherd mix, and we’ve been having some problems with potty training her. My question though is that it seems she only has about a 15 to 20 minute bladder. Is that normal for a puppy that age? She seems to be okay when we crate her but when we’re home and she’s free in the house, she goes every 15 minutes, almost like clockwork. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The first thing you need to know about house training is that sticking the dogs nose in it and saying "bad" is not the correct way of going about it. The best thing to do is as soon as you see your puppy going grab her and rush her outside. Always praize your little girl for going outside. It may take a while but she will understand sooner or later.
As for going every 15 minutes, I know that human babies dont get the "I have to go potty" sensation until potty training. It developes during the training process. I dont know if its the same for puppies. But look at it this way, she doesn’t know how to hold it in, shes never had to. I sould say she doesn’t know she has to. It’s just something she has to learn. Yes puppies do have to go more than adults.
And the reason she wont go in the crate is because well let me ask you this, would you potty where you sleep? She just needs to learn that she is not aloud to do it in the house either.
Hope it helps!

A dog that age should be able to hold her bladder for at least four hours. If she’s going that much she either has a bladder control problem, or she’s drinking too much water. When you take her out to go potty, make sure she stays out there until she has gotten everything out. Walks can really help you with this.

Maybe your giving her 2 much to drink because i dont think its normal 4 a puppy 2 go tht often or she might just need 2 get used 2 it

Well, you just need to go along with it for now. As she gets older, she will need to go out every 1-2 hours like a normal dog. If by taking her out every 15 minutes is going to keep her from doing her business in your home then by all means just go along with it. I’m not sure if that is entirely normal so you may want to consult a vet.

What is happening at the time she tiddles every 15 minutes? Is she excited is someone making her excited? at 4 months yes they do tiddle a lot but not every 15 minutes. If she tiddles when excited then she is a sumissive pee-er so you’ll have to work on NOT getting her excited when you come home and how you do that is to wait until she’s calmed down before acknowledging her presence, it’ll help with excited peeing.
If that’s not the case have her checked by a vet for any urinary infections.
Good luck

It depends on how much the puppy drinks.
Make sure she is always in the room with you. If you see her starting to go put her outside with you watching her. If she goes give her loads of praises. If she doesn’t go and your afraid he will go in the house go on a walk with her. She will probably go then. When she does, praise her. If she goes in the house, do not punish. That will just make her not want to go outside with you there watching her. Just put her outside and then praise her when she gets back in.
I hope this works. It did on my dog.
